Mule Auction |
Why Mules in Fulton? Historically, Missouri had a
monopoly of producing the finest mules around. During the St. Louis
World’s Fair, Missouri mules won many of the top awards. The
vast majority of Missouri mules came from the counties of Audrain,
Boone and Callaway. Callaway County being the top feeding county.
The use of mules declined as the use of trucks and tractors replaced
mule teams. The Fulton Street Fair celebrates our heritage by staging
a LIVE MULE AUCTION as they did over 75 years ago on the courthouse
steps. John P. Harrison will bring a dozen or so mules downtown and
auction them off to the highest bidder. Come out and see and pet these
grand animals and take a moment to appreciate the history of Callaway
County. |

| Callaway
Cup Mule Derby |
Get your mule team together and prepare
to race thru downtown. Wheeled mules will compete for The Callaway
Cup on the incline of Court Street between Fourth and Fifth Street.
Each mule is attached to a cable stretched from the top to the bottom
of the hill and move by gravity from release down and be stopped by
a hay bale at the end. Entries are judged on mule appearance and speed.
The Mule Derby continues to draw interest and competition. Challenge
your fellow business or family and "Hit the Bricks" in the
Callaway Cup Mule Derby. |
